Director Susan Little, MD

Dr. Susan Little is a professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health.  In addition to serving as the director of the Office of Clinical Research Health Sciences, she is director of the Antiviral Research Center (AVRC) and clinical research site leader for the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) site at UC San Diego. She conducts translational clinical research focused on HIV prevention, molecular epidemiology and critical contributions to SARS-CoV-2 vaccine trials.  Dr. Little's current research is focused on the use of molecular epidemiologic methods to infer and characterize HIV transmission networks and the potential of prevention and treatment interventions to reduce network incidence. She also conducts trials of newer COVID-19 vaccine candidates to identify vaccines that may improve protection against severe illness, hospitalization and death.

OUR MISSION

The Health Sciences Office of Clinical Research was established by the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences work with clinical investigators across Health Sciences to align quality, enhance compliance, harmonize processes, and create best practices in research conduct while ensuring that all clinical investigators have sufficient infrastructure and guidance for human research activities.
