Space Planning and Management
- Provides leadership and guidance on research and administrative space planning and assignment in approximately 2.8 million gross square feet (GSF) of research and instructional space in 40 buildings across 3 separate campuses and off-site leases.
- Responsible for on-going space management, including major space solutions associated with new projects and their impacts.
- Support and collaborate with the Health Sciences Space Advisory Committee (HSSAC) who meet monthly to analyze and review selected School/Department/Unit space utilization based on a number of criteria including; square footage, employees in space and financial activities supporting scientific activities in the space being reviewed.
- Evaluate and present space requests to HSSAC for additional basic or clinical research, educational, and administrative space needs.
- Maintains and updates Health Sciences building floor plans and occupancy information via Facilities Information Management System (FIMS), UCSD's space data and inventory management system.
Quarterly Space Managers Meeting
- PSM office holds a Quarterly Space Managers meeting for VCHS department space managers. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday's in March, June, September and December at 10 am. To be added to the meeting invite please reach out to Amy Long.
Health Sciences Space Advisory Committee (HSSAC)
The Health Sciences Space Advisory Committee (HSSAC) was established to provide general guidance and specific recommendations to the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences in regard to the most effective use of existing space, the assignment of new space, and the need for future facilities development for instruction and research, and organized research activities.
The committee will:
- Review space policy and recommend changes as necessary, at least every three years.
- Recommend space analyses as needed.
- Conduct annual reviews, including a walk-through of all schools,departments and ORU space. Faculty assigned space will be reviewed, and each school/department/ORU will provide written space utilization reviews and supporting documentation.
- Annually review and comment on space utilization by school/department/ORU and identify space available for reallocation.
- Recommend programmatic priorities for space assignments, and development of new space.
- Assist in defining the need/scope of future instruction and research space, and ORU related support facilities.
NOTE: Sanford Consortium, ECOB, MCC,MPF, NARF and Leased Spaces are not included in space review. Meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
